Water treadmills are revolutionary to the physiotherapy and rehabilitation process. They are treadmills inside an open tank which you can fill with the appropriate amount of water for each client.
What Do They Do?
Water treadmills relieve the pressure on joints and make exercising the muscle much easier. The animal’s weight is distributed better in the water which helps ease them into using their muscles and joints in a gentle, and yet effective way.
The low impact, active muscle concentration, increases the range of motion in the joint and a lengthened stride in the water promotes the restoration of normal function. It helps the patient to exercise in an upwards position which encourages normal posture and gait, as well as greatly increasing the animal’s confidence.

Why Not Just Take The Animal Swimming?
Often when swimming, animals do not make effective use of their hind limbs, therefore cannot exercise those limbs very well. Whereas, in a water treadmill, you can even control their movement and even focus where you would like the animal to concentrate muscle use by making use of the adjustable treadmill.
The chamber itself is also less intimidating for patients who are scared by water, the tank fills up gradually from the bottom, rather than throwing them in the deep end - literally!
